READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH PROGRAM VERY CAREFULLY .

IT WILL BE A WASTE OF YOUR TIME , AND A WASTE OF THE PROGRAM'S TIME IF YOU APPLY FOR SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO RECIEVE.

For any family going through the hardships of having a loved one with health problems , it can be a huge burden . I know . My daughter has insulin dependent diabetes , my parents have both had cancer , as have 3 grandparents . I have many major health problems myself .

Prayer is important . So is having a good faith base . Find a church that is real and that shows concern for your family.

Find support groups . Check out all the organizations related to your specific health needs . When in the hopital , ask for the medical social worker . Ask for food vouchers so you can get something to eat while being with your loved one in the hospital .

Don't be afraid to ask for help . This is a time when you need support ,and others who have been through this want to help you get through it too .

Here is something that I need to do myself - update my medical I.D. information . This site has 2 ways you can have an I.D. for free.

To Up Date Your Medical Card you have to complete a new card
because MedIDs.com does not retain your medical data.

Medical errors are one of the Nation's leading causes of death and injury. A recent report by the Institute of Medicine estimates that as many as 44,000 to 98,000 people die in U.S. hospitals each year as the result of medical errors. This means that more people die from medical errors than from motor vehicle accidents, breast cancer, or AIDS. ( Partially because they don't have the right information about the patient-sl)

FREE CLINICS

This site doesn't say , but my guess is that these are free clinics. You usually have to wait a long time in the lobby , but I have gone to one ,and the doctor was very kind and supportive. If you don't have a choice , try it.  It is much better than letting yourself or loved one suffer.I personally suggest you bring an advocate with you. Someone who can help you navigate things and help you be a SQUEEKY WHEEL ! Also bring a good book , music and headphones , snack , drink. Prepare to camp out for a while.

This Web site will help you find a clinic that will give you medical care, even if you have no medical insurance or money.

Hill-Burton Free & Reduced Cost Care at

hospitals, nursing homes and other facilities are required to provide a specific amount of free or below cost health care to people unable to pay. Eligibility is based on the size of your family and your income. You apply for Hill-Burton care at the facility where you were or will be treated. "

Steps to Apply for Hill-Burton Free or reduced-cost Care

  1. Find the Hill-Burton obligated facility nearest you from the list of Hill-Burton obligated facilities.
  2. Go to the facility's admissions or business office and ask for a copy of the Hill-Burton Individual Notice. The Individual Notice will tell you what income level makes you eligible for free or reduced-cost care, what services might be covered, and exactly where in the facility to apply.
  3. Go to the office listed in the Individual Notice and say you want to apply for Hill-Burton free or reduced-cost care. You may need to fill out a form.
  4. Gather any other required documents (such as a pay stub to prove income eligibility) and take or send them to the obligated facility.
  5. If you are asked to apply for Medicaid, Medicare, or some other financial assistance program, you must do so.
  6. When you return the completed application, ask for a Determination of Eligibility. Check the Individual Notice to see how much time the facility has before it must tell you whether or not you will receive free or reduced-cost care.

More about Hill-Burton Free or Reduced-Cost Care

You are eligible to apply for Hill-Burton free care if your income is at or below the current HHS Poverty Guidelines. You may be eligible for Hill-Burton reduced-cost care if your income is as much as two times (triple for nursing home care) the HHS Poverty Guidelines.

BEYOND THE RAINBOW DOT ORG

I have included quite a lot of information from the following page, but I thought it was important to see how some people care about other people and the kind way that they word their information makes it very readable.

When A Helping Hand Is Needed Most!

"Catastrophic illness can strike at any time. Unfortunately, unexpected medical crises are a fact of life. The impact that such events have on a family can be devastating on many levels. While most of us do our best to be prepared for such situations, there are always unplanned expenses and responsibilities that arise. Few are completely ready for such a traumatic and painful event.

Sudden illness demands the utmost emotional strength so that the ill or injured family member is given the necessary support to survive and recover. While our emotional reserves in such difficult circumstances often prove to be deeper than most suspect, financial reserves eventually run out. A sudden illness in a family can be as difficult financially as it is emotionally. During those times of extremes, stress, pain, and hope, Pennies from Heaven is there to help.

Time is not the only factor that will help to minimize the chaos that arises from unexpected medical emergencies. Pennies from Heaven works hard to bring financial and emotional stability back into the lives of families affected by unexpected illness or medical emergencies.

We are a small non-profit charity supported solely by tax-deductible contributions. We locate affected families and offer financial and logistical support to assist them in making the long- and short-term care of their loved one easier.

Even families with comprehensive medical insurance coverage incur many out-of-pocket expenses when dealing with unexpected medical events. The cost of eating out at restaurants, the additional gasoline for repeated trips to the hospital, phone calls to family members and physicians, airfare, etc., can all take a serious financial toll. We'd rather that they were able to focus their attentions on supporting their loved one(s) in need rather than on the stresses of sudden and extensive financial responsibilities.

Supporting sick or injured family members can quickly become a financial as well as emotional hardship. Our financial and logistical assistance helps directly with the former while positively affecting the latter. Pennies from Heaven helps those families caring for those who need it the most.

Pennies from Heaven has four programs that allow us to provide logistical and financial aid to family members going through what all of us dread, but many of us must face – a sudden medical crisis. "

The SHARE Network

was originally founded in 1999 and went online on February 7th, 2000. Our main goal and mission is to provide an alternative means for obtaining services and equipment for those with special healthcare needs.

PURPOSE - To enable families and friends of persons with special needs to acquire services or equipment without financial restriction. This includes respite, transportation, home help, personal care, equipment and/or any other service an individual may need.  Providing education.  To allow those who want to make a difference and volunteer their time and skill, services, or equipment, to have an avenue to do so. To provide a means for exchanging equipment or services. To provide a free advertising of low cost or free services and equipment, or services and equipment available for exchange.

GOAL - All those who "need" should be free from a sense of imposing on one another and not be afraid to ask for help. All those who have extra, will "SHARE" what they have. This is our goal.  We want everyone who needs services or equipment to have an alternative place to go.

The following says it all . Diabetes is an expensive disease !

"Diabetes treatment is expensive. According to the

American Diabetes Association,

people who have this disease spend an average of $13,243 a year on health care expenses.

Many people who have diabetes need help paying some of the bills. It's a good idea to start by looking for an insurance plan that covers as many diabetes-related expenses as possible. A variety of governmental and nongovernmental programs exist to help, depending on whether you qualify."

All the Hospitals in ohio have funding that will either pay a portion or all of your hospital bill, depending on your income. Just tell them you do not have medical insurace and need help getting the bill paid and they will give you the paperwork to fill out. Good Luck

My daughter, Leah, is 6 months pregnant as of Aug. 9, 2007. She recently found out that her husband's employer's insurance company will not cover pregnancy. Her husband, Ryan stuck, served five years in the army (1 yr. 8 mos. in Iraq). Since he is not in active duty and was not injured in Iraq, the Veteran's Administration won't do anything for them. We would greatly appreciate any financial aid to help pay for the mounting medical bills. She may be turned away from the hospital when it is time for her to give birth if she can't pay. I hope I am wrong but I just don't know. Sincerely, Kathy Wotowiec
